Join us for a short silent meditation on International Peace Day, Thursday Sept 21st.

Meet at the end of Sawmill Rd at 12:10 to do the short walk to the Jones point Beach where we will gather around a campfire and meditate silently for a few moments followed by hot apple cider and hot tea. You are also invited to share short inspirational messages following the meditation.

The Haines Sheldon Museum will be closed from September 22 until October 20 at 5 P.M. On October 20, we will reopen at 5 p.m. with a reception for our new Sesquicentennial Exhibit: "Everything from Afar Drifts Ashore"

This weekend and next week (through Thursday) are the last chance for people to see "The Haines 50: Objects of Our History," Chris Nowicki's mezzotints exhibit "Surrogate Reality," and our main gallery exhibits. Please let Haines friends know.

A Haines Borough Candidate Forum will be held at Mosquito Lake School Community Center on Wednesday, 9/13 at 7pm. An informal meet and greet period will begin at 6:30pm and the forum will start at 7pm. All mayoral and borough assembly candidates have been invited to attend. The

The Borough currently has 17 vehicles signed up for the junk car removal program (up to 25 will be selected):

1. The Borough will be gathering requests from community members to dispose of derelict vehicles (limit one vehicle per registered owner).

2. The requests will be collected via email (kkielsmeier@haines.ak.us), mail (P.O. Box 1209) or fax (907-766-2716) until 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017.

The September Upper Valley Community
Market will take place Sunday 9/10 from 2-4 pm at Mosquito
Lake School Community Center, located at 1.9 mile Mosquito
Lake Road. The non-profit sponsor of the event,
Friends of Mosquito Lake School Community Center, will sell
lunch during the market. Local vendors often feature
produce, jams, honey, jewelry, arts & crafts, and
